Key Steps in Setting Up an Education Program

What steps are involved in setting up an education program for a utility?
Setting up an education program might seem like a big task, but with a clear roadmap, it’s totally manageable! Here’s a rundown of what’s involved:

  1. Set Goals and Cost-Effective Pricing: First, we’ll want to define clear, achievable objectives that align with the utility’s mission, while also establishing a pricing structure that works for all parties.
  2. Kick-off Meeting : Bringing all the key players together early is essential. A kick-off meeting helps everyone manage expectations and sets the tone for teamwork.
  3. Research Local Schools and Seek Approvals: Dive into the specifics of the schools in the utility’s service area by understanding their needs, challenges, and demographics. Once we have this information, we’ll look for necessary approvals to move forward with the program.
  4. Collaborate on Program Development: This is where the creative magic happens! We’ll work with the marketing team to create a design concept, establish a dedicated website where teachers and students can access program information, and order and print educational materials.
  5. Outreach to Teachers and Ship Materials: Spread the word by reaching out to teachers, encouraging them to sign up. Once everything is ready, we’ll ship the materials directly to the teachers so they can start using them in their classrooms right away.
  6. Follow-Up for Support: Stay in touch with the teachers, offering ongoing 1:1 support as they implement the program.
  7. Request Student Surveys: Gather feedback from students via surveys to measure the program’s success and see where we can improve.

Customizing Education Programs

How can utilities customize or scale the education program to fit their specific needs?
Customization is key to tailoring a program to fit a utility’s unique needs. We work closely with utilities to incorporate their branding into program materials, creating a stronger connection with local communities. We also set goals, usually in the fall. This helps utilities identify additional initiatives to enhance their energy efficiency portfolio throughout the year.

Support During the Preparation Phase

What resources or support do you provide to utilities during the preparation phase?
We’ve got utilities covered from all angles during the prep phase! Our IT, creative, and marketing teams work behind the scenes to ensure operations run smoothly, while the operations team is ready to help with diverse business enterprise (DBE) requests. The outreach team coordinates campaigns and manages communications to keep everything on track. With our regular 1:1 weekly calls and detailed reporting, our program management team ensures the teams are aligned and informed throughout the process.

The Impact of Education Programs on Energy Efficiency Portfolios

What does an education program bring to an energy efficiency portfolio?
An education program can be a game-changer. It delivers tangible savings, helping utilities hit their annual goals while fostering energy-conscious communities. It’s a win-win—you’re not just meeting targets, but also empowering the next generation to think sustainably.
